West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice can’t wait to face old foes Germany in the colours of the Three Lions with the two teams scheduled to face each other in the round of 16 at the Euro 2020 tournament next week. West Ham star Rice is relishing the clash with the Germans as he said that England have to beat the best teams if they want to win major tournaments like Euro 2020.
England recorded seven points from three games in Group D to secure their spot in the round of 16 as a group winner. The Three Lions went into the final group game against Czech Republic in second place. They trailed leaders Czech Republic on goal difference with four points from their first two matches.
The Three Lions beat Croatia 1-0 thanks to the second half strike from Manchester City star Raheem Sterling in their tournament opener before playing out a disappointing goalless draw with Scotland. Rice and his England teammates were able to beat Czech Republic in their final Group D encounter to win the group. Sterling was also the recipient of the only goal in the 1-0 win over the Czechs.
England will now have to navigate a last 16 clash against the Germans to secure a place in the quarterfinals. Germany finished second in Group F known as the Group of Death behind world champions France. The Germans had four points from their three games in the group.
